Gateway
A gateway is a single box from your internet provider that combines a modem and a router, and often Wi-Fi as well.
What it means for you
If you add your own router or mesh system behind a gateway, you can end up with double NAT unless you switch the gateway to bridge mode or use its passthrough option. The steps differ by provider.
