How We Pick Products

Everyday Tech Guide is a research-based guide site. This page explains how we choose the products we link to, what we do not do, and how affiliate links work.

What these guides are

We write setup, troubleshooting and buying guides for home Wi-Fi, security cameras and smart home gear. Each guide draws on the manufacturer’s own specifications, manuals and support pages, which we link where it helps. We do not run hands-on tests, so our picks are not independently tested.

How we choose a pick

  1. Start with the job. Each guide begins with what you are trying to do, such as covering a dead zone, keeping a camera online or adding Matter devices.
  2. Check the maker’s documents. We read the current specifications and support pages for the features and compatibility we mention.
  3. Apply our seller rule. A product only makes the list if we can confirm the seller rule below.
  4. Drop what we cannot verify. If we cannot confirm a product, we leave it out rather than guess.

Our seller rule

We only link to listings that are sold by Amazon.com or by the brand’s official store, that are new, and that show as in stock. We do not link to third-party sellers, used or renewed items, Amazon Resale or Global Store listings.

What “not independently tested” means

We have not set these products up in our own homes or labs, and we do not publish test results. Descriptions come from official sources, and your results can differ. Check the maker’s current documentation before you buy.

As an Amazon Associate, Everyday Tech Guide earns from qualifying purchases. Product links on our guides carry our Amazon Associates tag. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Our picks are not paid placements.

Every link that can earn a commission is labeled “(affiliate link)” next to the link, is marked as sponsored in the page code, and sits on a page that carries the disclosure. Read the full affiliate disclosure.

What we do not publish

We do not publish prices, invented reviews or test results we did not run. Product details can change, so the maker’s own pages are the final word.
