Matter
Matter is an open smart home standard, from the Connectivity Standards Alliance, that lets compatible devices work with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings.
What it means for you
Look for the Matter logo when you shop. It lets one device be set up with more than one app, and it still needs a controller such as a speaker, display or hub in your home. Matter devices connect over Wi-Fi, Thread or Ethernet, and some brand-specific features stay in the maker’s own app.
