WiZ Lights Not Connecting: Pairing, Offline and Reset Fixes

WiZ bulbs and plugs connect straight to your router over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, with no hub. That makes setup simple, but it also means almost every problem comes down to three things: the light isn’t in pairing mode, your phone isn’t on the 2.4 GHz network, or the Wi-Fi details the light remembers no longer work (WiZ: Pairing troubleshooting, WiZ: Putting lights in pairing mode). This guide follows WiZ’s own help pages: how to tell which pairing mode a light is in, what a red blink means, why a light shows offline, how to add WiZ to Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa with Matter, and how to start over.

Quick answer

Fix WiZ bulbs and plugs that won't pair, blink red, won't pulse or show offline: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, pairing mode, manual WiZConfig pairing, Matter setup and how to start over, from WiZ support.

Quick answers

WiZ lights tell you what state they are in by how they pulse. Summarized from WiZ’s help pages:

What you seeWhat it meansWhat to do
No pulse, but the light is new or was deleted from the appIt is in smart pairing mode already, with no visual sign; it is ready 5 to 10 seconds after power-on (WiZ: Putting lights in pairing mode)Open the WiZ app and add it
Gentle pulse in blue (color lights) or cool white (white lights)Smart pairing mode, forced by hand (WiZ: Putting lights in pairing mode)Leave it on and add it in the app
Double pulse in purpleManual pairing mode: the light is broadcasting its own WiZConfig_xxxx network (WiZ: Manual pairing troubleshooting)Join that network on your phone, then go back to the app
Blinking red (or warm white on white-only lights)An error during pairing: wrong password, network not found, or no free IP address (WiZ: Pairing troubleshooting)Check the password, move closer to the router, check how many devices are connected
Shows offline just after pairingA firmware update is running; it usually takes under a minute and up to about 5 (WiZ: Offline right after pairing)Wait; if it doesn’t return, power it off and on

Fix a WiZ light that won’t pair

WiZ’s pairing checklist, in order (WiZ: Pairing troubleshooting):

  1. Get close. Stand next to the light with your phone and check the Wi-Fi signal is strong there.
  2. Put your phone on 2.4 GHz. WiZ devices only work on 2.4 GHz b/g/n Wi-Fi with WPA2 or WPA3 Personal security. If your router uses one name for both bands, WiZ suggests temporarily renaming the 5 GHz network so you can pick the 2.4 GHz one for certain. Our router guide explains bands if this is new.
  3. Allow the app’s permissions. The WiZ app asks for location, local network and Bluetooth access; it needs them to find and set up lights.
  4. Check UDP. If the app’s network test shows a UDP error, check that UDP broadcast is allowed in your router settings; without it, pairing is likely to fail.
  5. Force pairing mode with the wall switch (3 or 5 ONs, 1 to 2 seconds apart) and leave the light on once it pulses (WiZ: Putting lights in pairing mode). Lights with their own on/off button can instead be put in pairing mode by holding that button for 10 seconds.

Your WiZ devices join whichever network your phone is on, so connect the phone to your home Wi-Fi first (WiZ: Pairing troubleshooting).

Manual pairing with WiZConfig_xxxx

Manual pairing is WiZ’s fallback when the app can’t find the light. It sets up one light at a time (WiZ: Putting lights in pairing mode).

  1. Force smart pairing (blue or cool white pulse). After about a minute the light changes to a purple double pulse. To get there faster, switch it off and back on one more time, off for 1 to 2 seconds (WiZ: Putting lights in pairing mode).
  2. On your phone, open Wi-Fi settings and join the network named WiZConfig_xxxx. It has no password; the password the app asks for is your own home Wi-Fi password, which it passes to the light (WiZ: Manual pairing troubleshooting).
  3. If your phone warns that the network has no internet, confirm and stay connected. That is normal for this step (WiZ: Manual pairing troubleshooting).
  4. Go back to the WiZ app and wait for setup to finish. If it still fails, contact WiZ support through the in-app chat under Settings, then Support (WiZ: Pairing troubleshooting).

Why a WiZ light shows offline

WiZ’s offline checklist (WiZ: My light appears offline):

If phones and laptops drop too, the problem is the network rather than WiZ; see why Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting, and for many smart devices consider a separate smart home network.

Add WiZ to Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa with Matter

Lights and smart plugs made after Q2 2021 support Matter; WiZ remotes, buttons and motion sensors don’t (WiZ: Do all WiZ devices support Matter?). To add a Matter-ready WiZ device (WiZ: Adding a device to a Matter hub):

  1. In the WiZ app, open Settings, then Integration, then Matter.
  2. Pick the device and tap Start setup. The light blinks to show it is in Matter setup mode, and the app shows a QR code and a numeric code.
  3. Open your Matter app (Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or another) and scan the code or type the number.
  4. Keep the WiZ device on the same network as your Matter hub and app, or setup will fail.
  5. Finish within 15 minutes; that is how long Matter setup mode lasts.

Deleting a light from the WiZ app resets it, so you will need to set it up in WiZ again to get a new Matter code (WiZ: How to refresh my light). Our Matter vs Thread explainer covers the basics, and the compatibility checker shows which platforms work together.

How to start over (reset a WiZ light)

WiZ calls this “refreshing” a light. Deleting it from your WiZ home puts it back to an out-of-box state (WiZ: How to refresh my light):

  1. In the WiZ app, open the room and long-press the light.
  2. Tap Settings, then the arrow next to the device name.
  3. Tap Delete device.

After deleting, the light goes into smart pairing mode by itself when powered on, so you can add it again (WiZ: Putting lights in pairing mode). If you can’t reach the light in the app, force pairing mode with the wall switch instead (WiZ: Putting lights in pairing mode).

Privacy tip: by default WiZ lights accept commands over your local network. You can switch local communication off under Settings, then Security; with it off, lights can’t be controlled from the app when the internet is down (WiZ: Local network communication).

Frequently asked questions

Why is my WiZ bulb not connecting?

Most often your phone is on 5 GHz Wi-Fi, the light isn't in pairing mode, or the light is too far from the router. WiZ lights only use 2.4 GHz, and your phone must be on the 2.4 GHz network while pairing.

How do I put a WiZ bulb in pairing mode?

Switch it on and off with the wall switch, leaving 1 to 2 seconds between each ON. After 3 or 5 ONs it pulses blue (color lights) or cool white (white lights). Leave it on and add it in the WiZ app.

Why won't my WiZ bulb pulse?

A new light, or one deleted from the app, is already in pairing mode but doesn't pulse. Try adding it in the app. If that fails, use the wall switch method and try 5 ONs if 3 didn't work.

What does a red blinking WiZ light mean?

It is a pairing error: usually a wrong Wi-Fi password, the network can't be found, or the router has no free IP address for the light.

What is WiZConfig on my Wi-Fi list?

It is the network a WiZ light broadcasts in manual pairing mode, shown by a purple double pulse. Join it on your phone (no password needed), then return to the WiZ app.

Why does my WiZ light say offline?

Often the wall switch was turned off, a firmware update is running, or your Wi-Fi password changed. Power-cycle the light, and if the password changed, pair it again.

How do I reset a WiZ bulb?

Delete it from the WiZ app: long-press it in its room, open Settings, tap the arrow next to its name and choose Delete device. It returns to an out-of-box state.

Do WiZ bulbs work with 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

No. WiZ devices only work on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi with WPA2 or WPA3 Personal security.

Do WiZ lights need a hub?

No. They connect straight to your Wi-Fi router. For Matter control in Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa you use that platform's Matter hub, and the WiZ device must be on the same network.
